About Berkeley

Berkeley has been a university city ever since its incorporation in 1878. With that comes a lot of innovation, inspiration and a spirit that ignites creativity, exploration and the highest standard of learning.

UC Berkeley was started by a group of academics and had its claim to fame globally during the 1960s, especially with the Free Speech movement and today is still according to their website, “…a place where the brightest minds from across the globe come together to explore, ask questions and improve the world.” Learn about the discoveries and contributions that came about since the early days of the campus, many of which direct our lives today.

A couple of blocks from the campus is UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) in UC’s newly refurbished Printing Press Building. BAMPFA anchors the Art District of the city, which includes the renowned Berkeley Repertory Theatre and legendary Freight & Salvage music venue among others.
